Former Chelsea defender David Luiz has claimed that he was advised by Zlatan Ibrahimovic to leave the London outfit for Paris St Germain.
Luiz became the world’s most expensive defender after making a £ 50 million move to the French capital in the summer. Chelsea were praised for the way they received such a huge amount of money for a player who was not seen as a first choice central defender. The decision to sell the Brazilian has proven to be the right decision, as Chelsea have been much more solid in defence without the 27-year-old.
Luiz will be coming up against Chelsea for the first time since leaving the West London outfit in the Champions League knockout stages. The first leg will be at the French capital with the return leg at Stamford Bridge set almost a month away. Luiz has revealed that Ibrahimovic was a major factor in convincing him to move to PSG. The pair were seen together in the last season’s quarter-final. Chelsea won this match in remarkable circumstances and knocked out PSG from the quarter finals yet again. PSG won the first leg 3-1 before the blues managed a 2-0 victory in the return leg. Luiz has also revealed that he has great respect for Jose Mourinho.
“There are two Zlatans: one the media portrays and then the real one.He was one of the big reasons that I chose to join Paris. When Chelsea played Paris he said to me during the game,’ you need to come and play with us next season.’He is one of the best players in the world, and a great guy. Mourinho and I have a mutual respect and I will shake his hand. Of course Mourinho knows Zlatan well from Inter and will have a plan to try and stop him,” said Luiz.
